LAHS  is based in Port Alfred, Eastern Cape, South Africa. It's mission is to promote the rich and diverse histories of the Eastern Cape, with special emphasis on Lower Albany. It actively researches, document and shares information about historically significant people, places, structures and artifacts, while advocating for their preservation. It hosts presentations of historical interest, usually but not always limited to the Lower Albany geographical region. Presentations are offered once per month on the third Thursday (excluding December and January and are held in the Don Powis Hall of the Settlers Park Retirement Village, Horton Road, Port Alfred. However, occasionally the meetings take the form of excursions to places of historical interest in the Port Alfred area.
