Why the ‘Toposcope’ logo for LAHS and our Journal?

The Toposcope Monument that is on a hill in Bathurst indicates by means of granite plaques where the 1820 Settler parties were placed. Edward Morse- Jones organised the construction of the present monument in the 1960s. In 2018 the  Toposcope was restored and extended. Historic Bathurst designed and constructed the new terrace to commemorate the Xhosa Chiefs who confronted the Settlers in 1820 – an extension that reflects greater inclusivity and changed socio-political times.
