September 1859 
The Great Aurora. Following the famous Carrington solar storm of 1–2 September 1859, unusually bright auroral displays were reported across much of the Southern Hemisphere, including Albany. 

1 September 1906 
The Foundation Stone of what was to be the Henry Putt Bridge, the first bridge over the Kowie, was laid by the Governor of the Cape Sir Walter Hely-Hutchinson. He used a silver trowel from Galpin Jewellers in Grahamstown.

12 September 1908 
Putt Bridge was officially opened by the Hon D P de Villiers Graaff by unlocking he gates to the bridge with a golden key and cutting a blue ribbon. Celebrations included a gym display and musical items, and then on the Monday there was a Regatta and a masked ball.  (The bridge was demolished in 1989.)

15 September 1820 
Establishment of Albany's first court. This was one of the first permanent civil institutions in the region following the arrival of the 1820 Settlers.
