| 1 September 1906 The Foundation Stone of what was to be the Henry Putt Bridge, the first bridge over the Kowie, was laid by the Governor of the Cape Sir Walter Hely-Hutchinson. He used a silver trowel from Galpin Jewellers in Grahamstown. |

| 12 September 1908 Putt Bridge was officially opened by the Hon D P de Villiers Graaff by unlocking he gates to the bridge with a golden key and cutting a blue ribbon. Celebrations included a gym display and musical items, and then on the Monday there was a Regatta and a masked ball. (The bridge was demolished in 1989.) |
